The endemic birds of Seychelles

The Seychelles indeed is home to many migrants, vagrants, sea birds, and land birds. Amongst the large quantity of birds found in the Seychelles, there are some that is very rare and are classified as endemic to the Seychelles. Meaning found only in the Seychelles and no where else. In total there are 12 endemic birds species in Seychelles. (below are the list of these birds)

Known in creole as the pizon olande, recently spread to Curieuse and Aride. Feeds on fruit and can be found in the canopy of trees.
   
Seychelles kestrel
Known to be a bird of prey that flies during day, feed on small animals such as chicks, lizards.... Lays it eggs on ground among rocks. In the past the kestrel was though to be unlucky and was killed by the humans.
   
Seychelles magpie robin
Classified as one of the most endangered species of the endemic birds. Known in Creole as the Pisantez. In 1970 there were about 25 of these birds found on Fregate.
   
Seychelles scops owl
Known in creole as Syer, active mainly during the night. It makes a sound like a big saw on the wood. It feeds on insects, spider and small lizards.
   
Seychelles warbler
This bird can be mainly found on Cousin, Cousine and Aride. Its nest is made of grass or coconut fibres and feeds on small insect. It is know in creole as the Timerl dezil.
   
Seychelles sunbird
This bird is known in creole as the Kolibri. It can be found on all the granitic islands of Seychelles. Feeds on nectar and insects and is frequently found in the garden amongst hibiscus and other flowers.
   
Seychelles bulbul
Known in creole as the Merl. Mainly found everywhere on all the largest islands. Feeds mainly on fruits such papaya, guava etc..... They are very noisy birds and can be seen chasing other birds from their food..
   
Seychelles cave swiftlet
Known in creole as Zirondel. They feed on flying insects. Catches their food while they are flying. It is usually seen flying and can be found on Mahe, Praslin, La Digue and some other neighboring islands.
   
Seychelles paradise flycatcher
Known I creole as Vev. It has a long tail and is glossy black. It is found only on La Digue island and feeds on insects. Can be found on the Takamaka and Bodamyen trees.
   
Seychelles white eye
This bird is known in creole as the Zwazo linet. Feeds on insects and small fruits. It was once the most endangered species until a group was discovered in 1997 on Conception island.
   
Seychelles fody
It is known in creole as Tok-tok. Feeds on insects, fruits and birds eggs. Habits in forest and scrub. It has been distributed on Aride, Cousin, Cousine and Fregate.
   
Seychelles black parrot
It is known in creole as the Kato nwanr. Can be found mainly on Praslin in the Vallee De Mai and a few on Curieuse island. Feeds on cultivated and wild fruits.
