Event Name: Agricultural & Horticultural Show

The National Agricultural & Horticultural Show has been established as one of the annual activities to commemorate Seychelles' National Day on 18th June. This FREE 3-day event showcases both competitive and non-competitive agricultural displays and exhibits by individuals, groups and organizations both in the public and private sector.

Event Name: Miss Regatta 2008

Description:
After 11 years, The Seychelles Round Table Association successfully brought back the Miss Regatta beauty Pageant in 2005.

The aim of organising Miss Regatta is to bring together a celebration of youth, fashion, design, music and beauty.  This activity will also assist in promoting the Seychelles Round Table Association in its various charitable activities, organised in Seychelles.

Event Name: Festival Kreol

Description:
You can hear it in the music.  You can feel it in the rhythm.  You can taste it in the food.  Festival Kreol is the biggest and most important event of the Seychelles cultural calendar.  It offers the visitor a fascinating week full of the colours, sounds, flavours and fragrances of one corner of the Creole world that treasures its traditions while embracing the opportunities of the present.

Event Name: Seychelles Sailing Cup
Date: 18-27 January 2008
Description:
The Seychelles Sailing Cup is scheduled to take place in the paradise islands of the Seychelles between 18th to 27th January 2008.

The contest, conducted under the authority of the Seychelles Yachting Association in accordance with ISAF’s International Racing Rules of Sailing, will be open to amateur and professional sailors alike on any type of sailing boat: catamarans, monohulls, maxi yachts as well as traditional rigs.

The event will be run as a handicap race with each boat given a rating, and where two classifications will be in force for each heat, ‘real time’ and ‘compensated time’ but where only ‘compensated time’ will be used for the final classification.

Heats of various types are planned: races between buoys, races between the islands, set courses and game fishing contests.

Races will commence in front of the prestigious Eden Island from where the boats will first race towards Takamaka in south Mahé before sailing on to such exciting venues as Silhouette, Praslin’s Baie Ste. Anne, Curieuse Island and la Digue.

Event Name: Kavadi Thaipoosum (Hindu Festival)

Description:
The Kavadi Festival is an annual event which is celebrated by the Hindu community and is attributed to Lord Murugan, the warrior deity of the hills.  The concept of the Kavadi is to carry milk in small pots and finally offer it to Lord Murugan amid prayers in return for his blessings.

Event Name: Seychelles International Game Fishing Competition
Date: 10-17 March 2008
Description:
After the success of the 2nd edition of the International Fishing Competition held in Seychelles between 14th and 18th March 2007 in which Italian and French teams vied for the trophy under IGFA (International Game Fishing Association) rules, the organizers are planning a 3rd event for 2008 due to be held between the 10th and 17th March.

Organized jointly by the Seychelles Tourism Board (STB) and the IGFA's representative for Sardinia and St Remo, Captain Paulo Sala, the 2008 Seychelles edition will be contested over 2 days by 4-man teams from a fleet of inboard and outboard vessels with the winner decided by best placement over the 2 days of trolling and bottom fishing.

Event Name: Seychelles Arts Festival
Date: 28th April – 1st May 2008
Description:
Come and experience the arts in Seychelles in all its brilliant facets.  Some of the highlights of this year’s festival include: “Arts in Creation”, solo exhibitions featuring the works of local artists; “Nou Leritaz Mizikal”, a workshop where you - the participant - can learn how to play two of the most traditional musical instruments of Seychelles, namely the ‘tanbour sega’ (sega drum) and ‘tanbour moutya’ (moutya drum).

Other noteable events are “Sound of Seychelles”, a musical show and dance performance; full-length plays with local story telling and poems; and a “Gourmet Evening” where you can feast on the gastronomic creations of ten selected chefs from local hotels.

This event organised by the National Arts Council in collaboration with the Ministry of  Arts Culture & Sports seeks to encourage creative expression and participation for all, through the provision of practical activities, exhibitions, performances, forums, and workshops.

It also aims to facilitate and promote a greater understanding and appreciation of the contemporary arts through the provision of access, information and discussion and, as such, may be seen as a showcase of the contemporary Seychelles’ arts scene. The Festival acknowledges the contribution of the contemporary arts to society and plans to recognise individual or group achievements of artists through the distribution of merited awards later in the year.

Event Name: FetAfrik

FetAfrik is a multi-artistic festival, a colourful expression of African and Kreol culture and also the Seychellois way of celebrating Africa Day, on the 25th May.

Event Name: Festival of Classical Music
Date: 27th May – 6th June 2008
Description:
The Seychelles International Festival of Classical Music commences in Seychelles in May 2008.  The festival will feature professional musicians, choristers and soloists, both vocal and instrumental, from several countries.

For its 6th edition the festival organisation is presenting a selection of music from the Baroque and Romantic periods.  In order to make use of our huge brass & percussion sections we have selected some exciting orchestral work of Russian composers.

Event Name: SUBIOS
Date: 6-12 October 2008
Description:
SUBIOS 2008 will take place between 6th to 12th October 2008.  SUBIOS is an annual underwater film and image festival combining a range of daytime diving and snorkelling activities with free evening programmes of films, video and slide presentations by acclaimed guest speakers from around the world as well as local ones.

SUBIOS 2008 will feature a variety of events and presentations throughout the period of the festival.  It will also include several photographic and video graphic contests for visitors and locals alike in the ‘Best Image’, ‘Best Video’, ‘Best Image of Seychelles’ and ‘Best Local Video’ categories where the top prizes for foreign entries are return tickets to the islands plus 5 days of free accommodation.

The festival’s aim is to promote marine-based tourism in Seychelles and at the same time, to sensitize the local population to the importance of the role of the marine world in Seychelles’ environment.
