Significant Seychelles Travel Information

It is important to note that the Seychelles is a group of small islands and that when making your reservations it is important to know which island that your hotel is located. Access to these islands is frequent and some scheduled on a daily basis. To facilitate your vacations, Holidays Seychelles do provide accommodations on all the Seychelles islands; Holidays Seychelles also provides trips, excursions to Mahe Island, Praslin Island and La Digue Island.

Health & Safety In Seychelles Travel

Transportation
Seychelles has a very good transport network that links all the islands by air, sea and land. You can travel by helicopter, domestic airlines, fast catamaran or your private yacht. The domestic flights and the Catamaran travelling between Mahe and Praslin operate only during the day time. Banking/Currencies:
Being a traveller you must be well aware about our currency. The local currency in Seychelles is Seychelles Rupee (SR) which is divided into 100 cents.   Paper notes are in denominations of SR10, SR25, SR50, SR100 and SR500. Coins are 1 and 5 SR as well as 1, 5, 10 and 25 cents. Victoria offers great ranges of banks for exchange of money foreign currency can be exchanged at the airport banks.

Traveller’s cheques are widely accepted by banks. Credit cards, example Visa, MasterCard and American Express are also widely accepted by hotels, shops, car hire, yacht charter and restaurants.  Major currencies like the US dollars, EURO and British pounds are preferred and less likely to gain additional exchange fees.

Communication
There are two GSM network operators in Seychelles offering roaming, prepaid services. Using GPRS and 3G. Your mobile set may have to be multiband. You can get a prepaid starter pack in any village shop. Coin boxes are located in all villages, please note that coin boxes do not accept incoming calls. Public booths are also located on the three main islands. Internet cafes are also available if you prefer to send email.

Security
There are beach police that patrol most beaches. But please ensure that your belonging are securely locked in your car trunk (boot) or is clearly visible on the beach. Remember to carry all important contact details in case of an urgent situation. Do not carry large amount of money if you do not intend to use it, leave it in the hotel safe. Common sense prevails.

Post office
The main post office in Victoria it is open from 0800-1600, Monday-Friday and 0800-1200 Saturday. There are post offices in Anse Royal district as well as Praslin and La Digue Island

Language
Creole, English and French are the official languages here in Seychelles. There are a minority of Seychellois who can speak Italian & German fluently.

Time
Seychelles is four hours ahead of GMT and three hours ahead of Central European time.

Tourism Information
The Seychelles Tourism Office is located in Independence House, Victoria on Mahe and on Praslin at the airport and jetty where visitors can enquire information about Seychelles.

What to pack:
Clothing:

Light clothing is suitable for Seychelles, since it is a tropical hot climate and has humid atmosphere with plenty of sun. Swim wear are required as Seychelles is surrounded by water. Personal diving or snorkelling equipment can be carried as well if you want to go of your own. Casual eveningwear (long trousers for men), with appropriate footwear, is necessary for dining out and for gaining entrance to casinos and discotheque. Nudity is illegal.

Bring along sunglasses, hats, walking shoes and plenty of UV protection - SPF30+ is suitable.
