Seychelles is undoubtedly one of the most beautiful destinations in the world! Lush green vegetation with varied range of fauna species makes this island a true nature reserve. It houses some of the rarest species of world. There are several endemic fauna species. This suggests that these species are available in only one place.
Mother Nature has blessed our beautiful Seychelles, as it has an astonishing range of endemic fauna species. There are some 20 different nature trails crossing the islands of Mahe, Praslin, la Digue and Silhouette. These trails are safe, fully serviceable and are maintained by the ministry of environment. They are well documented and marked to help you identify special object or rare species. You will discover another paradise.
But, these precious endemic fauna species are in great threat from human as well as nature factors. Ministry of Environment Natural Resources is taking significant steps for the conservation and protection of all these endangered species. The process of saving these endangered species is ongoing, as it involves various steps, such as managing and monitoring endemic fauna species.
Seychelles White Eye or Zwazo Line is one of the endangered fauna species of Seychelles. Currently, Seychelles White Eye Recovery program is ongoing. SWERP monitors and protect this population by taking appropriate measures. This program also includes monthly survey of Fregate and Conception Island, as they are mainly found here.
Another threatened endemic species is in La Digue Veuve Reserve. La Digue Island houses Veuve Reserve, where you can find the endangered Black Paradise Flycatcher. Seychelles Black parrot is also on the verge of extinction. This beautiful endemic species is mainly found in Praslin and Curieuse. Ministry of Environment and Natural resources is taking appropriate measures to save this species from extinction.
Scops Owl is also one of the endangered species in Seychelles. This bird is mainly found on Mahe Island. Sheath-Tailed Bat is also about to extinct. This species of endemic fauna is mainly found on Mahe, Baie Lazare and Bel Ombre. A survey was conducted for this species on Mahe, Praslin and La Digue, which includes monitoring with a bat detector to catch all the sounds of bat.
Marine Turtles of Seychelles are one of the key highlights, but it is under threat. Ministry of Environment and Natural Resources is conducting a program to conserve and save this species.
